Mission of NMVO Italia
NMVO Italia is the organization responsible for implementing and managing the National Medicines Verification System (NMVS) as established by Legislative Decree 10/2025. This regulation entrusts NMVO Italia with the task of setting up and operating the Italian repository that stores data on the legitimate “unique identifiers” of medicines, which can be consulted to verify the authenticity of medicinal products placed on the Italian market.
The Italian National Medicines Verification System addresses the need for a verification mechanism to ensure that medicines released on the market are genuine and safe for patients.
The organization operates in compliance with the requirements of the European Medicines Verification System (EMVS) to implement Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/161. NMVO Italia also cooperates with the European Medicines Verification Organisation (EMVO) and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive and the associated Delegated Regulation.
The Board of Directors of NMVO Italia includes representatives from the main pharmaceutical industry associations: Farmindustria, Egualia, Assofarm, Federfarma, Federfarma Servizi, Associazione Distributori Farmaceutici, Affordable Medicines Italia, and Associazione Importatori Paralleli.
Our mission is to contribute to public health protection through a reliable traceability mechanism that complies with regulatory standards. We operate in the pharmaceutical and public health sectors, working in partnership with companies and institutions to achieve this goal.
